Common problems
Sound familiar?
These are the dryer problems David sees most often in Broward County, and what usually causes them.
d80, d90, or d95 showing
LG is warning that the exhaust duct is about 80, 90, or 95% blocked. A badly blocked vent can be unsafe, so stop running loads until it's cleared. David clears the full vent run.
tE code on the panel
tE points to the thermistor, the sensor that reads the dryer's temperature. LG shows it as tE1, tE2, tE3, or tE4, and some of these clear with a reset. If it comes back, David tests the thermistor and replaces it if it failed.
Takes forever to dry
Restricted airflow or a weak heating element makes cycles run long; David checks the duct and the element and restores full heat.
Tumbles but no heat
On electric LG models, it's usually a blown thermal fuse or a burned-out heating element; David tests both and replaces the one that failed.
Clothes still damp after a cycle
A blocked exhaust traps moist air, so it recirculates instead of venting; David clears the line and checks that the clothes dry.
Loud thumping or grinding
Worn drum rollers or a worn idler pulley can make the drum drag; David replaces the rollers and belt.
Shuts off mid-cycle
Overheating from poor airflow trips the thermal cutoff; David finds the restriction and clears it so the dryer runs safely again.
Won't start or dead panel
It's often a tripped thermal fuse or a failed door switch cutting the power; David finds the fault and repairs the circuit.
Burning or hot smell
Lint packed near the heater is a fire risk on LG dryers; David clears it and inspects the element.
Overheats, cabinet hot to the touch
A stuck thermistor or a failed cycling thermostat lets temperatures climb too high; David replaces the faulty part.

Why it breaks
What actually goes wrong
Your LG dryer tumbles fine, but nothing dries, or it shows d80, d90, or d95. LG uses these codes to warn that the exhaust duct is about 80, 90, or 95% blocked. The dryer itself may not be broken, but LG says a badly blocked vent needs attention right away. On some gas models, d80 can also point to a gas supply problem. David clears the vent and checks that the dryer heats properly.
Most LG dryer failures start with airflow. Broward's heat and humidity mean dryers run longer and pack lint faster, choking the exhaust duct until d80, d90, or d95 appears. That trapped heat then cooks the thermistor, thermal fuse, and heating element. Years of tumbling also wear the drum rollers and idler pulley until the drum thumps.

FAQ
Common questions about dryer repair
Is d95 on my LG dryer a serious error?
Yes, take it seriously. d80, d90, and d95 mean the exhaust duct is about 80, 90, or 95% blocked, and d95 is the worst of the three. LG warns that a badly restricted vent can be unsafe and says not to use the dryer until the vent is cleaned. David clears the full vent run.
What does the tE code mean on an LG dryer?
tE is a thermistor (temperature sensor) fault: the dryer can't read its own temperature, so it shuts down or won't heat.
Why does my LG dryer take two cycles to dry?
It's almost always restricted airflow from a clogged duct, and sometimes a weakening heating element. David checks both, clears the vent, and makes sure the dryer heats properly before he leaves, so a single cycle dries the load again.
